Huron University College,
established as an Anglican theological institution in 1863, was the founding college of The
University of Western Ontario in London. The college moved to its present site in 1951, and
the Casavant organ was installed in the new chapel at that time.
The organ had the usual limitations of the period: no stops above 4' pitch
except in the mild compound stops; no pedal reeds; minimal combination action
resources.
Although improvements had been considered several times over the years, the
only change up until the recent rebuilding was the replacement of the Lieblich Flote 4 by a new
Rohrflute 4. The reeds were never rebuilt and still have the English style voicing.
Pole and Kingham were asked to recommend a plan for completing the
specification of the organ and for providing a modern solid state control system. The work carried
out in 2006 included:
-
new drawknob console, E. M. Skinner style
-
new stops as listed in the specification below
-
rescaling of some of the old ranks as mutations
-
converting the old Great Mixture to Pedal IV ranks 2 2/3
-
new wind chest additions including front chests
-
electronic voice extensions of Pedal stops
- solid state key, stop and piston action

Notes:
The 32' Contra Bourdon has a loud/soft device. The voice
is soft when the Lieblich 16' is used, and loud when the Bourdon 16 is used.
Although the Pedal IV rank Mixture uses the old Great II rank Mixture, the stop is diode wired
to play 4 pipes per note.
